Game Review: ABZÛ

Game Review: ABZÛ

Here fishy fishy!

For those of you who know about the virtual content I love to create, you can no doubt imagine that this game was an instant buy for me. I’ve played a few games on Steam this week, but this one was probably the most visually and audibly pleasing. It really is a refreshing treat for the senses, and it’s one of those games that makes you feel a little better about life after playing it.

Penguins on the telly!

Below is a list of my favourite Linux and technology related YouTube channels. This isn’t an exhaustive list of all the content I watch, but rather a list of the ones I frequent on a regular basis. Hopefully this will be a good introduction for those curious about the Linux community. If you have any favourites of your own, and you’d like me to list them below, email me, and I’ll check them out and add them to the list.

Penguins invade the metaverse!

New users to Linux may find it a bit “fiddly” getting Second Life up and running. So, in this guide I’ll quickly show you how to install the Firestorm client to access Second Life. The Linux distribution I use is Manjaro Xfce 20.0.3, which is an Arch based. However, the steps below should work on other Linux distros like Ubuntu, Linux Mint or Pop!_OS 📝 Ensure you have your Linux graphics drivers up to date and installed correctly before following the steps below.
15 Years in Second Life®

15 Years in Second Life®

How time flies!

I’ve been a “resident” of the online virtual world known as Second Life® since June 2005. Second Life® is a rich 3D virtual world, promoting digital entertainment, social interaction and a lot of fun. All the content “in-world” is created by the residents that frequent there. Linden Lab (the company who created Second Life®) give us the tools — and residents like myself create all the content for our virtual world.

Surviving the coughapocalypse!

May 2020 What a month! Who would have thought that it’d take a global pandemic to make me to feel more productive! Not that I wish this thing to last, but having been stuck at home has given me a chance to do a hell of a lot of updates to my in-world items. What Have I Been Doing? In the month of May 2020 I have, Updated every single fish script at The Virtual Aquarium Created a whole new rezzer auto alignment system for the fish rezzzer, Created a bunch of cool new aquariums with “auto-align” features for easy rezzer installation, Done custom-builds of aquariums and installations for clients, Improved the look of the shop layout and the surrounding land, Updated AVpack and fixed a bunch of paper cut bugs, Updated iTP and EZ-Note Message Board, Created a whole new website with improved workflow with HUGO, Converted all of my old “Google Sites” docs over to Markdown format, Learned how to use “Zsh” and Git more effectively.

To boldly go where no guide has gone before!

UPDATE 📝 22/08/2021: This guide is outdated. You no longer need to manually fiddle with this Proton prefix in order to play the game. I have tested this from a bare installation using “Proton 6.3-6” and the game installs and plays fine. I’ve left this article visible to show the rapid progression of gaming on Linux. Introduction I’ve seen lots of Linux gamers online having issues trying to get this game to run.

Savor the moments!

No GeForce Experience?! Windows gamers will be familiar with “NVIDIA GeForce Experience”, and its ability to allow you to record the last 30 seconds of gameplay as a video file to the hard drive. Annoyingly however, for us Linux gamers, even though NVIDIA supports Linux with its proprietary binary graphics drivers - they haven’t made a Linux version of Geforce Experience. Enter OBS To Save The Day! With “OBS Studio”, we can use its “Replay Buffer” feature, which can act in much the same way.

Tweedle tweaks for Tux tinkerers!

📝 These problems may have been fixed after this page was written, so be sure to test things fully before you apply these fixes. I moved from “UBUNTU MATE 18.04 LTS” to “MX Linux 18.3 Continuum” about two weeks ago, and I have to say I love it. Although there were little niggles I had to sort out for gaming on this distro. XBox 360 Controller Issues The first fix, was to stop my wired X-box 360 controller analogue sticks from moving my mouse cursor around the screen.
